Where it started

Entrepreneurs from day one.

HotelSpecials began in 2002, when booking a short break still mostly meant a visit to the travel agent and very little happened online. Nick and Remco saw it differently. They were two young entrepreneurs set on making getting away easier, more honest and more fun, and on doing it online before most of the market had moved there. That outward-looking, build-it-ourselves mentality still runs through everything we do.

Why the people

The people are the perk.

Ask anyone here what makes the job and it is rarely the desk or the coffee, it is who is sitting next to them. Everyone is a specialist, or an aspiring one, in their own field, and we share what we know instead of guarding it.

Departments do not sit in silos. Marketing, sales, service, product & development, finance and HR set direction together with OKRs and move towards the same goals, with short lines and little hierarchy in between. We listen to guests, partners and each other, and work as a team.

We are results-driven, and we make time to actually enjoy each other: lunch together every day, weekly Friday drinks and the odd beer-pong final. Ambition and a good atmosphere are not a trade-off here.
